I am from Hawaii, and grew up in beautiful Kailua. For over 20 years I proudly directed several well known programs for adults recovering from mental illnesses, and various programs for Hawaii's youth at 2 excellent local non-profit agencies. As a Marriage and Family Therapist, I am very interested in working with individuals, as well as with their loved ones to help support the person challenged and to help educate their support group and loved ones so that relief comes more quickly, and there is greater understanding for all those involved. I also specialize in relationship counseling, and am certified in premarital counseling with the "Prepare/Enrich" program.
Outside of private practice, I instruct graduate school courses in the Marriage and Family Therapy Program at Argosy University in Honolulu and provide private supervision to other Marriage and Family Therapy Interns who are working towards their Hawaii MFT license.
Additionally I facilitate the "WOW" (Women on Wellness) support group for adult women who are challenged by mental health concerns themselves or have loved ones dealing with a mental illness whom they want to support. This free support group is sponsored by NAMI Hawaii, and is funded by the Atherton Foundation.
I have a special dedication for helping those suffering from major depression and other mental illnesses, especially those who are afraid to seek help because they are ashamed. Many want to deal with their depression or mental illness alone; and try to tough it out. They do not realize how bad their condition can become without timely corrective treatment until it becomes very serious. My goal is to help break the stigma so that people feel as comfortable taking care of their mental health as they do taking care of their physical health.
Mahalo for your interest in my services!
